DESCRIPTION
Living up to its exotic name, the Strelitzia Nicolai, or 'White Bird of Paradise', is a truly remarkable houseplant native to South Africa. Its striking leaves are evocative of the wings of a bird in flight, with a rich, deep green color and a glossy sheen that captivates the eye. In fact, the plant can reach up to 20 feet in height and 10 feet in width, making it a majestic centerpiece for any indoor or outdoor garden. The long, paddle-shaped leaves fan out to create a lush canopy, reminiscent of a tropical rainforest, and its architectural shape adds an interesting contrast to softer, bushier plants. When given ample room to grow, the White Bird of Paradise will form clumps of several trunks, each sprouting a profusion of large leaves. In a large pot, the plant will create a stunning focal point, its leaves arching out and upward, creating a dramatic silhouette. In a garden, it can create a dense screen or windbreak, providing privacy and a sense of seclusion. It's a slow-growing plant, but given time, patience, and the right conditions, it will reward you with its full, dramatic spread. The White Bird of Paradise is also known for its distinctive flowers. Resembling the head of a bird with a white crest and purple beak, these blooms are a sight to behold. They are not commonly seen on indoor plants but can appear on mature outdoor specimens. These blooms add an extra layer of beauty to an already stunning plant. In the summer months, you may be treated to these spectacular blooms, which typically appear from late winter to late spring. The flowers, which can be up to 8 inches long, are followed by triangular seed capsules. Each flower is composed of three brilliant orange sepals and three purplish-blue or white petals. Two of the blue or white petals are joined together to form an arrow-like nectary. As beautiful as it is resilient, the White Bird of Paradise can withstand temperatures down to 24 degrees Fahrenheit, and prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. This hardy plant is also drought-tolerant, making it a low-maintenance choice for the busy plant parent or those new to gardening. So, if you're looking to add a touch of the tropics to your home or garden, the Strelitzia Nicolai 'White Bird of Paradise' is an excellent choice
PLANT SIZING & APPEARANCE

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
