In soft shades of matte green and coral pink, this sweet little succulent forms gnarled stems bearing slightly elongated, but very thick, oval leaves. As Tylecodon schaeferianus ‘Fairy Tale Plant’ matures, the stems will become progressively more knobby and irregular, like the trunks of an old tree. Fascinatingly, the trunks become the focal point each summer, as the plant enters a period of dormancy and drops its dense leaves before sending up charming pink blooms just as summer transitions into fall.

Native to the harsh and rocky landscapes of Namibia, ‘Fairy Tale Plant’ is as hardy as it is unique, provided its basic needs are met. Bright sunlight will ensure the best growth, though this plant can survive in partial shade, while a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot will stave off rot and pests. Plan to water this specimen thoroughly yet infrequently, letting the soil dry completely through in between drinks  – reducing the watering frequency even further during the summer dormancy period.

Due to how the leaves attach to the gnarled stems, it is easy for them to detach when they are handled – though this will not cause any permanent damage to ‘Fairy Tale Plant.’  During the winter months, be sure to shield this variety from freezing temperatures, as it is only hardy to Zone 10.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
