With slightly undulating margins, the pointed leaves of Sempervivum calcareum form perfectly concentric, circular rosettes edged in a rich maroon, offset by a dusty blue base hue. Flushing to a more uniformly purple coloration during the chilly winter months, this French native is hardy down to Zone 4 – allowing even cool climate succulent lovers to add a splash of unique color and texture to their outdoor landscapes, where Sempervivum calcareum will quickly establish a clump of offsets produced via long stalks called ‘stolons.’

Performing best in bright outdoor light, rather than inherently dimmer indoor conditions, Sempervivum calcareum does prefer some protection from the harsh afternoon sun during the hottest summer months. More tolerant of soil moisture than many succulents, this variety can endure a degree of overwatering, but would prefer periods of dryness in between drinks. As such, take steps to provide a porous soil mixture with adequate drainage, and embrace a thorough yet infrequent watering routine.

Putting on most of its growth during the spring and summer months, a contented Sempervivum calcareum will also send up stalks of white blooms, adding to its charm and appeal!

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!

We received the packaged succulents and had a wonderful time going thru, finding what cool plants were hiding inside. We then transplanted them into two pots gave them a spritz of refreshing water and admired their beauty.

I really like finding plants that aren’t typically found in my local greenhouses. The plants themselves come so loved, well packaged and ready to be placed.
