This standout Haworthia is most remarkable for its growth pattern – instead of forming rosettes, the thick leaves are arranged in an irregular mass of foliage, extending out in all directions at once! The leaves themselves are a deep green with flattened tips and a lightly stippled texture, laced with apple green accents. As a survival adaptation, in the wild Haworthia maughanii truncata grows largely underground, thus shielding itself from parching in the hot South African sun. To ensure that the plant still receives enough sunlight to photosynthesize, the flat tips of each leaf contain translucent ‘windows’ that allow light to penetrate all the way down to the base of each leaf.
Reaching only 4 inches tall and wide at maturity, Haworthia maughanii truncata will do best in indirect, but bright, lighting, which will encourage both ample growth as well as white blooms during the winter months. This variety does not tolerate overwatering well, and as such prefers porous soil, a well-draining pot, and a thorough but infrequent watering routine. Furthermore, be sure to protect the uniquely thick leaves of Haworthia maughanii truncata from frost in climates below Zone 10, to prevent permanent damage to the plant.
If you're not completely happy with your Leaf & Clay purchase, we'll do everything we can to make things right!
All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
