Euphorbia flanangii 'Medusa's Head' features numerous finger-like branches that emanate from a central stem. Reaching up to 2 feet in diameter at maturity, each branch sports a scaly appearance in shades of rich green – accented by a crown of tiny, white, and fragrant blooms during the active growing season. Uncommonly for a succulent, Euphorbia flanangii 'Medusa's Head' is known to form a caudex, or singular woody stem, as it ages, adding yet another layer of unique whimsy to this already exceptional plant!

Despite its exotic appearance, this variety is quite simple in its care requirements. First and foremost is the need to provide this South African native with plenty of bright sunlight, which will encourage the most expedient growth and prolific flowering. Next on the list is a thorough but infrequent watering routine, such as the ‘soak and dry’ method, which will ensure that Euphorbia flanangii 'Medusa's Head' does not succumb to ‘wet feet.’ Rounding out this brief list is a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot, as well as ample airflow around the stems and soil surface.

Not hardy below Zone 9, be sure to protect this bizarre plant from the ravages of freezing temperatures – and don’t forget to note that, like all Euphorbia, this variety does contain toxic latex sap within its stems and branches, so take care to avoid coming into contact with this liquid should the plant become damaged in any way.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
