With the species name meaning ‘like an agave,’ E. agavoides 'Frank Reinelt' more than lives up to its name, sporting rosettes of long, narrow leaves with pronounced points that appear to form an alternating, star-shaped pattern as they swirl outwards from the center of the plant. The leaves feature a clear sea foam green that transitions into a darker olive green towards the tips, where it may also include a bright red ‘blush’ when exposed to ample sunlight.

Bright light is the key to the richest coloration that it has to offer, so be sure to position this specimen near a sunny south or west-facing exposure. This Mexican native also prefers a watering routine that mimics the drought conditions it has adapted to in its wild habitat, so be sure to water thoroughly but very infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely in between. A porous soil mixture, a well-draining pot, and ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface will round out the care routine for this unique plant.

Hardy only to Zone 9, be sure to protect it from frost – and during the active growing season, you will be rewarded with spikes of orange to red blooms!

If you're not completely happy with your Leaf & Clay purchase, we'll do everything we can to make things right!

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
