Native to South Africa, Dinteranthus wilmotianus ‘Golf Ball’ is an exceptional example of a msembs, or mimicry succulent, and truly does resemble its namesake! A deep cleft in the center separates a pair of extremely fleshy, rounded leaves, from which a vibrant yellow, daisy-like bloom will emerge each year. Hues of soft, grayish blue or purple characterize the leaves, which are covered in round dots of deeper blue, with creamy orange highlighting along the edge and centerline of each leaf.

The biggest consideration when caring for Dinteranthus wilmotianus ‘Golf Ball’ is to avoid excess moisture – which is especially crucial as the new leaf pair begins to emerge after flowering. Once this process begins, cease watering entirely, to encourage the new leaves to pull their moisture from the old pair, which will soon begin to shrivel away leaving the new pair in their stead. During the rest of the year, water deeply but with periods of dryness in between, and take care to utilize an extremely porous soil mix (supplemented with pumice or course sand) within a well-draining pot.

Bright light is ideal for ‘Golf Ball,’ though take steps to protect the plant from the harshest afternoon sun. In climates below Zone 10, also be sure to shield this specimen from frost, which could cause permanent damage to the thick leaves.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
