Astrophytum 'Onzuka'

With a solitary, rounded stem characterized by four distinct quadrants, each Astrophytum ‘Onzuka’ specimen is covered in a unique pattern of dense white speckling layered atop a dark green base hue. Each ridge is dotted with furry taupe areoles along its highest point – and during the summer months, creamy yellow blooms emerging from the apex of the plant will take the contrasting textures to a whole new level.

A very slow grower, ‘Onzuka’s care is all about the long game, giving the plant ample time to mature and develop its signature blooms. Tolerant of partial shade to bright light, this specimen is sensitive to overwatering, and should absolutely be housed in a very gritty soil mix within a well-draining pot, coupled with ample airflow around the stem and soil surface. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry through in between drinks, during the spring, summer, and fall – and abstain from watering entirely during the winter, as a further safeguard against rot and pests.

Not tolerant of freezing temperatures, ‘Onzuka’ prefers to be kept warm, with temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit being ideal.

    Plant Size & Appearance
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
