DESCRIPTION

Introducing the striking Aeonium urbicum 'Rubrum', a captivating succulent hailing from the Canary Islands. This particular variety, known for its deep burgundy to almost black foliage, creates a dramatic contrast in any succulent collection or garden setting. The leaves, which are thick and waxy, form large rosettes that can grow up to 18 inches in diameter, presenting a bold statement piece that draws the eye.

Aeonium urbicum 'Rubrum' thrives in well-draining soil and prefers a sunny to a partially shaded environment, where its colors can truly shine. Unlike other succulents, Aeoniums go dormant in the hot summer months, requiring minimal water during this period. As cooler weather returns, so does its growth spurt, making it a fascinating plant to observe through the changing seasons.

One of the most spectacular features of 'Rubrum' is its towering flower spike, which can reach several feet in height. In late winter to early spring, expect to see a profusion of yellow flowers that contrast beautifully against its dark foliage, attracting pollinators and adding an extra layer of interest to its already striking appearance.

Whether planted in the ground in frost-free climates or displayed in a container that can be moved to protect it from cold temperatures, Aeonium urbicum 'Rubrum' is sure to be a conversation starter. Its architectural form and stunning coloration make it a must-have for enthusiasts and collectors alike, offering a unique and exotic touch to any plant collection.

PLANT SIZING & APPEARANCE

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
