A unique succulent with coppery orange leaves and magenta highlights towards the center of each rosette, ‘California Sunset’ tends to grow on longer stems, giving it more height and drape than many succulents – up to 12 inches tall and wide. New growth will often emerge with more of a bright green color, though sunlight, infrequent watering, and even cooler (but not freezing!) temperatures will quickly deepen the orange and magenta hues.

This succulent prefers plenty of bright, filtered light – though a tendency to sunburn in intense sunshine means that morning sun is preferable to the scorching afternoon rays. Like many succulents, ‘California Sunset’ prefers the “soak and dry” method of watering, receiving a thorough amount of water only once the soil has had a chance to completely dry out. A particularly hardy variety, fast-draining soil, adequate pot drainage, and ample airflow will go a long way towards keeping ‘California Sunset’ happy and healthy. In the cooler months, be sure to protect its chubby leaves from freezing temperatures, as it is only viable to Zone 10.

In the spring and summer months, ‘California Sunset’ will be accentuated by small clusters of white, star-shaped flowers. It can also be propagated extremely readily from stem and leaf cuttings, making it easy to establish a larger clump within a pot or rock garden.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of Bulk Succulent Packs, House Plants, and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
