DESCRIPTION
True to its moniker, Homalomena 'Emerald Gem' is a magnificent houseplant native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. Its glossy, heart-shaped leaves, in varying hues of jade, olive, and deep forest green, are elegantly veined and provide a lush, dense canopy of foliage. This verdant gem will grow to approximately 2 feet in height and width, although under optimal conditions it can achieve greater dimensions. The plant has the potential to spread its lushness even further, as it has a tendency to branch out, creating a dense and attractive ground cover in larger indoor gardens. When potted, Homalomena 'Emerald Gem' can serve as a stunning focal point, its glossy foliage cascading over the sides of the pot to create a charming “waterfall” effect. While it's a relatively slow grower, this provides the opportunity for it to develop a robust root system, which ensures the plant's overall health and longevity. Adding to its lush and attractive foliage, the Homalomena 'Emerald Gem' also produces inflorescences – clusters of small, inconspicuous flowers hidden among the leaves. Although not as visually striking as some flowering plants, these inflorescences add a unique touch to this already beautiful plant. They emerge on short spadices, tucked away beneath the foliage, and are most commonly seen in the warmer months. Despite its exotic origins, the Homalomena 'Emerald Gem' is relatively easy to care for, making it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced plant enthusiasts. It thrives in medium to low light conditions and prefers a well-draining soil mix to prevent root rot. It's also quite forgiving when it comes to watering, requiring only a thorough watering when the top inch of soil has dried out. In all, the Homalomena 'Emerald Gem' is a true gem among houseplants. With its vibrant, glossy foliage and easy-care nature, it's sure to bring a touch of tropical charm to any indoor space. Whether you're a seasoned plant parent or just starting your indoor garden, this beautiful and resilient plant is a must-have addition to your collection.
PLANT SIZING & APPEARANCE

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
