With a growth pattern resembling that of an Aloe, the thick and triangular leaves of Gasteria ‘Flow’ are a rich green, accented by bands of white stippling across the upper and lower surface. The toothy margins will sometimes blush a maroon hue when exposed to ample levels of sunlight – though, unlike many succulent varieties, ‘Flow’ is able to thrive in lower light conditions. This feature, coupled with its restful aesthetic, makes this specimen a perfect addition to more dimly lit interior spaces, such as bedrooms or offices.
Reaching about 6 inches tall and wide at maturity, the textured leaves of ‘Flow’ retain large volumes of water for the plant’s use. As such, it does not require frequent watering, and would prefer a thorough drink only once the soil has had a chance to dry completely from the last one. A porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot will further shield against ills such as rot or pests, as will ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface.
As the weather cools in the winter, take steps to protect ‘Flow’s fleshy leaves from freezing temperatures – and as the days lengthen in the spring, expect to see sprays of tubular blooms rise above the star-shaped rosettes.
