DESCRIPTION
Mammillaria baumii f. cristata, a crested form of Mammillaria baumii, is a fascinating and visually appealing plant. This unique variety is highly sought after by cactus enthusiasts and collectors due to its unusual and striking growth form.
In the crested form, the normal growth pattern of M. baumii is altered, leading to a wavy, fan-like arrangement of the stem. This crested growth occurs when the cactus' apical meristem (growth center) produces growth in a linear fashion rather than in a single point, creating a wide, ribbon-like structure. This results in a sculptural plant with undulating ridges, quite different from the typical spherical or cylindrical shape of the standard M. baumii. The crest can vary in width and form, making each plant unique. The cactus is adorned with small, white spines that are densely packed along the crests, giving it a soft, fluffy appearance.

Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
