Undulating, fan-shaped stems with numerous irregular ridges create the contorted form of the quite rare Stenocereus hollianus cristata, which is further accented by tan areoles from which long spines in shades of beige to deep brown emerge. Resulting from a mutation in the apical meristem, or growth center, of the plant, this specimen still possesses the same care requirements as its ‘normal’ cousins – making it an excellent way for a beginner succulent grower to add a touch of the bizarre to their succulent collection!
Bright light is key to the success of Stenocereus hollianus cristata, and can even result in rich maroon flushing along the upper margins of each fan-like stem. Beyond this, its needs are simple – porous soil within a well-draining pot, ample airflow around the stems and soil surface, and a thorough yet infrequent watering routine will have you well on your way to success with this eye-catching rarity.
Hardy only to Zone 9, be sure to shield Stenocereus hollianus cristatafrom freezing temperatures, which could otherwise permanently damage its winding stems. Furthermore, take care when handling this specimen, as its unpredictable growth form can predispose it to breakage when bumped or jostled.
All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of Plant Club Subscription Boxes. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY.
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
