Featuring a rounded growth form covered in numerous ribs, as well as a dense layer of spines arranged in a geometric pattern across the surface of the stem, Echinocereus ‘Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus’ is a stunner in every sense of the word. Most extraordinary is how the spines shift in coloration as they mature – the spines towards the center of each cluster will emerge a bright pink hue, before lightening to a creamy yellow as they age. It is this phenomenon, coupled with the plant’s already rich green stem, which lends this Mexican native its name.

Reaching up to 12 inches in height at maturity, bright light is vital to ‘Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus’s most vigorous growth – as well as for encouraging this unique plant to send up large pink blooms during the active growing season! Beyond this, the most critical element of this variety’s care is to replicate the drought conditions to which it has adapted. To achieve this, be sure to utilize a porous soil mix within a well-draining pot, provide ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface, and water thoroughly but very infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely in between drinks.

Hardy only to Zone 10, take care not to expose ‘Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus’ to freezing temperatures, which could cause permanent damage to its stems.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
