DESCRIPTION

Behold the rugged charm of Sempervivum heuffelii 'Irene', a hardy succulent hailing from the mountains of southeastern Europe. This resilient plant presents a captivating palette of colors, with leaves that transition from deep green at the base to a fiery crimson at the tips, evoking the vibrant hues of a sunset. The foliage forms a tight rosette that can grow up to 4 inches in both height and width, creating a striking visual impact whether planted in mass or as a solitary specimen.

Unlike many succulents, 'Irene' is known for its exceptional cold hardiness, making it a perfect addition to outdoor gardens in cooler climates where it can grace rockeries, green roofs, or alpine gardens with its year-round color. In the spring and early summer, you'll be rewarded with bright yellow flowers that stand tall above the foliage, attracting bees and adding a cheerful note to your garden.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Sempervivum heuffelii 'Irene' is its growth habit. Rather than producing offsets on stolons like its cousin, the common hen-and-chicks, it divides at its base, creating new rosettes that remain closely clustered together. This characteristic allows for a denser, more compact display that can be easily managed and propagated.

Whether nestled in a rock wall, thriving in a crevice garden, or showcased in a container, 'Irene' is a low-maintenance succulent that promises to add a burst of color and texture to any setting. Its durability, ease of care, and striking appearance make it a must-have for both novice and experienced gardeners alike.

PLANT SIZING & APPEARANCE

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
