With thick, water-rich leaves that boast both deep coloration and near translucence, Haworthia 'Chocolate’ more than earns its common name! The squat rosettes feature sharply out-turned leaves with a heavily textured surface complete with creamy hued striations extending away from the center of the plant. In dimmer lighting ‘Chocolate’ sports a grayish green coloration, though bright light and cool (but not freezing) temperatures will cause the leaves to transition to a deep maroon tone, starting at the tips and working inward from there. In some instances, the leaves will become so dark as to appear almost black!

While its exotic appearance may suggest otherwise, ‘Chocolate' possesses the same easy care requires as any other Haworthia cultivar. While it can tolerate shady conditions, its richest coloration will be seen in bright, indirect light. As the leaves hold large stores of water for the plant to draw from, take care not to subject ‘Enigma’ to overwatering. This can be accomplished by providing a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot, ensuring ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface, and following a thorough but infrequent watering routine.

During the winter months, be sure to shield ‘Chocolate’s fleshy leaves from freezing temperatures, which could otherwise result in permanent damage to the plant.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
