Echeveria agavoides 'Ebony'

Echeveria agavoides 'Ebony' features large rosettes of tightly clustered, concentrically arranged leaves, each coming to a sharp point at the tip. The base color of this variety is a dusty gray-green, with deeply red and purple margins that appear to be painted on, giving ‘Ebony’ a truly eye-catching aesthetic. With each rosette reaching up to 12 inches in diameter, this variety holds its own as a specimen planting in containers, or as a ground-covering addition to temperate rock gardens.

To retain both its compact growth habit and its rich coloration, it is important to provide ‘Ebony’ with full, bright sun – though take care to acclimate your plant to these conditions slowly, to avoid sunburn. As with all Echeveria, overwatering is the most likely cause of demise in this variety, so be sure to employ a thorough but infrequent watering routine, paired with porous soil within a well-draining pot, to help avoid this fate. Ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface will further shield against excess moisture and dampness, which could otherwise predispose the plant to rot.

During the winter months, be sure to shield ‘Ebony’ from frosty temperatures – and in the spring it will reward your efforts with tall displays of red blooms with yellow tipped petals.
