Sempervivum globiferum ssp. hirtum 'Borealis'
DESCRIPTION
Behold the resilient charm of Sempervivum globiferum ssp. hirtum 'Borealis', a captivating succulent hailing from the rugged terrains of Europe. This hardy plant, commonly known as 'Borealis', showcases a mesmerizing display of tight, green rosettes that are tinged with a captivating red hue at the tips, evoking the mesmerizing colors of the northern lights. The foliage is densely covered in fine, white hairs, giving the plant a frosted appearance that is particularly striking against the backdrop of a rock garden or as a standout in a succulent collection.
With a mature size of around 4 to 6 inches in both height and width, 'Borealis' is a modestly sized plant that packs a significant visual punch. It's a prolific breeder, producing numerous offsets that can be used to propagate new plants or to spread its beauty further in your garden or home. This succulent is especially well-suited for outdoor gardens where it can form extensive mats over time, providing an evergreen ground cover that is both beautiful and drought-resistant.
One of the most enchanting features of 'Borealis' is its blooming habit. During the early summer months, it sends up tall flower stalks crowned with star-shaped, pink flowers that add an extra layer of allure to its already stunning foliage. These blooms not only attract the eyes of admirers but also serve as a beacon for pollinators. Despite its exotic appearance, 'Borealis' is surprisingly easy to care for, requiring minimal maintenance and thriving in well-draining soil with plenty of sunlight.
Whether nestled in a rockery, adorning a green roof, or featured in a succulent arrangement, Sempervivum globiferum ssp. hirtum 'Borealis' is a durable, eye-catching addition that brings a touch of the wild and wonderful into your garden or home.
PLANT SIZING & APPEARANCE
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
