Growing from a bulb instead of a typical root system, Ledebouria socialis 'Silver Squill' features lance shaped leaves with a maroon underside and dusty green base coloration along the upper surface, which is offset by leopard-like spots of a deeper, richer green hue. To avoid rot and add an intriguing aesthetic element to your planting of ‘Silver Squill’, the bulb should be partially exposed above the surface of the soil, from which the leaves will reach a maximum height of less than 10 inches at maturity.

Ample sunlight will ensure ‘Silver Squill’s best growth, as well as a display of light pink blooms during the summer months – though it can tolerate morning shade, which is reminiscent of the woodland terrain it often occupies in its native South Africa. Though not genetically a true succulent, ‘Silver Squill’ exhibits the same drought-hardiness of this plant family, as it can store ample moisture within its bulb. As such, be sure to water on a thorough but infrequent basis, and provide a well-draining pot filled with a porous soil mixture.

Able to tolerate an occasional light frost of around 30 degrees, be sure to bring ‘Silver Squill’ indoors if harsher temperatures threaten, to avoid damage to its thin leaves.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
