An especially fun variety, Aloe humilis ‘Spider Aloe’ or 'Hedgehog Aloe' derives its name from the prickly spikes along the margins of its copious leaves. The bright green, very full rosettes have an upward-reaching growth habit, and take on a dense, shrubby appearance sure to liven up any room! Especially forgiving in its care requirements, this succulent makes a great starter plant for a beginner grower – or even for a child looking to learn more about plant care!

A bright, sunny windowsill or countertop is the main requirement for a successful ‘Hedgehog Aloe,’ and it will reward you for meeting this need with relatively rapid growth and spikes of unique, coral-hued blooms during the spring and summer months. Like all Aloe, it is susceptible to overwatering, so take care not to let it have ‘wet feet’ for very long. A thorough drink only once the soil has become completely dried through is a great starting point – and a porous soil mix within a well-draining pot will help take care of the rest.

The gel within the leaves of ‘Hedgehog Aloe’ can be used to soothe burns and other skin irritations – simply snip off a leaf as close to its base as you can, and set aside for a few minutes to allow it to weep out the yellow sap it secretes when damaged. Once this has occurred, the clear gel can be scraped out and applied directly to the skin!

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
