Crassula ovata 'Crosby's Compact' is a unique Crassula variety that features a branching growth habit that eventually forms a small succulent shrub. The leaves emerge from thick, woody stems, and are a shiny apple green with red margins. Peaking in size at almost 3 feet tall and wide, ‘Crosby’s Compact’ has the potential to be a real showstopper in your succulent collection, and clusters of white blooms in the fall months only add to this effect.
Like many members of the ‘Jade Plant’ family, this variety is overall pretty tolerant. While it can handle lower light conditions, it prefers bright sun and will best maintain its red coloration with adequate light exposure. Like many succulents, the most common reason for ‘Crosby’s Compact’ to fail to thrive is overwatering – to avoid this fate, plan to use the ‘soak and dry’ method during the spring, summer, and fall months. During the cooler winter months, water only when you begin to see signs of the leaves shriveling. Porous soil mix in a well-draining pot will also go a long way toward ensuring that the roots do not remain damp for too long, and excellent airflow around the leaves and soil surface will help to ward off pests (especially mealy bugs).
While ‘Crosby’s Compact’ can be moved outdoors during the warm months, to increase light exposure and deepen its red tones, take care to acclimate it to direct sun slowly, to avoid sunburn. Further, be sure to bring your plant indoors as soon as the threat of frost looms, as it is hardy only to Zone 10.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
