Mammillaria elongata monstrose

Size: 2.5"

Due to a rare mutation in the growth centers of the plant, this monstrose variation results in a Mammillaria elongatacactus with a gnarled and knobby growth pattern, rather than the columnar form typical of the genus. While this growth pattern can make the plant more susceptible to breakage when handled roughly, as the protruding stems can emerge at all angles and junctures, it otherwise exhibits the same ease of care as any other cactus specimen – making Mammillaria elongata monstrosean exceptional variety to add a touch of the bizarre to any succulent collection.

As is also the case with its non-mutated cousins, Mammillaria elongata monstroseprefers plenty of bright to direct sunlight, in order to achieve its best possible growth. Furthermore, while their shape may be atypical, the dense stems and tubercles still hold a tremendous quantity of water reserves for the plant, making it all the more critical not to subject this variety to overwatering. To avoid this fate, be sure to utilize a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot, ensure ample airflow around the stems and soil surface, and employ a thorough yet infrequent watering routine.

During the winter months, take steps to shield Mammillaria elongata monstrosefrom freezing temperatures, which could otherwise cause permanent damage to the knobby, profuse stems.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
