Lobivia famatimensis cristata

Forming a very distinctive half moon shape, Lobivia famatimensis cristatais a tightly ridged, crested variety covered in a layer of spidery, recurved spines in hues of tan and orange. The crest is typically comprised of two ‘lobes’ that form a crevice down the midline of the plant, adding yet another unique element to this already show-stopping cactus.

A slow-grower, Lobivia famatimensis cristatahas relatively simple care needs, despite what its exotic appearance may suggest! A native to the desert landscapes of Argentina, this specimen requires arid and bright conditions – as such, be sure to water thoroughly but infrequently, utilize a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot, and expose to at least a few hours of direct sunlight each day. The higher the levels of bright light to which it is exposed, the more likely this variety is to bloom – a goal worth pursuing as the huge flowers, which open in the morning and close once again at nightfall, sport shades of bright pink, orange, and even red, adding yet another layer of appeal to Lobivia famatimensis cristata.

Hardy only to Zone 10, be sure to shield the thick crest of this variety from freezing temperatures, which could otherwise result in permanent scarring.
