Faucaria 'Tiger Jaws' variegata features all the hallmark’s of its fully green cousin – such as stacked, triangular leaves replete with menacing-looking but harmless spines along the margins – but with a creamy yellow hue swirled in. Truly resembling its namesake, this variety is native to dry landscapes in which its soft spines play a role in directing moisture towards the root of the plant. With a clumping growth form, each individual plant can reach up to six inches tall and wide, making for a fascinating ‘filler’ component in any succulent arrangement or rock garden.
Part of the family of msembs, or mimicry succulents, 'Tiger Jaws' variegata hails from southern Africa, where it thrives in extremely bright and arid conditions. As such, ensure that your specimen receives plenty of bright light, which is all the more important due to the reduction in chlorophyll that its variegation imparts. Water thoroughly but sparingly, soaking the soil only once it has had a chance to completely dry through. Furthermore, be sure to use an especially porous substrate, such as a cactus mix supplemented with perlite, to help stave off issues such as rot or pest infestation, and ensure that there is ample airflow around the leaves.
As the plant matures, it will produce large, dandelion-like blooms in the late summer, which will open each morning and senesce by nightfall. While ‘Tiger Jaws’ variegata can thrive outdoors in temperate climates, it is only hardy to Zone 10, and must be protected from frosty temperatures.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
