Euphorbia lactea 'Ruby'
- Hand-Selected
- In stock, ready to ship
- Inventory on the way
This eye-catching variety was so named for the deep, rich red tones covering its stems, leaves, and thorns. With a unique branching growth habit said to resemble the arms of a candelabra, Euphorbia lactea 'Ruby' forms a central, cactus-like stem from which its short thorns and spoon-shaped leaves both emerge from shared aureoles. When exposed to especially bright light, the coloration will deepen to a rich maroon, while dimmer conditions with cause a reversion to a green color palette.
To achieve its most ample growth and rich coloration, be sure to provide ‘Ruby’ with plenty of bright sunlight. Beyond this, it is a very simple plant to care for, and asks for only a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot and a thorough but infrequent watering routine. As is the case with most succulents, excess moisture is the most likely cause of poor outcomes with this Euphorbia cultivar, so take care not to overwater – and during the winter months, shield this unique plant from freezing temperatures, which could also lead to a lack of success.
Like all Euphorbia, ‘Ruby’ contains a toxic latex sap within its stems, which can cause irritation when brought into contact with the skin, mouth, or eyes. As such, be sure to keep this intriguing variety away from the curious hands (or paws) of children and pets.

Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
