An exceptional variety for beginner growers, this hardy plant features clusters of cylindrical stems that do indeed resemble fingers! Though each stem reaches only 6 inches in length, the copious offsets produced by Echinocereus pentalophus cristata ‘Lady Finger Cactus’ make it well suited to filling in a container planting, or forming a mat of foliage within a temperate landscape. The base color of this variety is a bright green, though the dense layer of creamy yellow spines largely obscures this coloration – and in the spring and summer months, large white or yellow blooms flushed with pink stripes will add yet another layer of contrast to this unique cactus!
Like most cacti, ‘Lady Finger Cactus’ will display its most robust growth when provided with ample bright light. Furthermore, it is important to replicate the native drought conditions to which this variety is accustomed – which can be accomplished by providing a porous soil mix within a well-draining pot, excellent airflow around the leaves and soil surface, and a thorough but very infrequent watering routine.
It is especially critical not to overwater during the cool winter months, when dampness is more likely to subject ‘Lady Finger Cactus’ to ills such as rot. Additionally, be sure to protect the slender stems from frost, which could otherwise cause permanent scarring.
All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of Plant Club Subscription Boxes. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY.
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
