Agave titanota 'Black and Blue'

Size

A fairly petite Agave cultivar, ‘Black and Blue’ is small but mighty, reaching a maximum size of only 8 – 12 inches tall and wide. With pointed spines at the tip of each thick, lance-shaped leaf, and a row of black teeth along the margins, this variety is fearsome – though its powdery blue coloration does soften the effect slightly.

Full sunlight is key to ‘Black and Blue’s success, with outdoor growing being the ideal – though take care to bring the plant indoors during the winter months, if you live in a climate below Zone 10. Beyond this, ‘Black and Blue’ is exceptionally hardy and can endure both intense heat and prolonged drought. As such it must be protected from excess dampness, so be sure to provide a porous soil mixture within a well draining pot, and water in accordance with a thorough yet infrequent watering routine, such as the ‘soak and dry’ method.

When contented, ‘Black and Blue’ will begin to produce ‘pups’ around its base, which can be cut away with a clean knife, allowed to scar over, and then repotted in their own soil.

    Plant Size & Appearance
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
