Also known by the common name "goat’s horns", Astrophytum capricorne begins life as a globular stem, taking on a more cylindrical shape as it matures.  Reaching up to 20 inches tall and 8 inches across, this deep green plant is covered in white flecks that lend it a furry look. This, coupled with the long brownish spines emerging from its areoles, is what gives this exceptional plant its namesake! When viewed from above, the ribs of the plant seem to swirl around its center, lending it an almost mesmerizing appearance sure to complement even the most established succulent collection.

Like all desert cacti, this Mexican native thrives in dry and bright conditions – so a sunny south-facing windowsill, coupled with thorough but infrequent watering, will have you well on your way to success. Inadequate light exposure can result in an unnatural growth pattern, while overwatering can lead to issues with rot. Furthermore, an extremely porous soil medium and a well-draining, deep pot are must-haves for this variety.

During the winter months, take care to shield goat’s horns from freezing temperatures – and as a reward for your efforts, during the summer months you can expect large yellow flowers with red throats to emerge above the cactus!

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
