The uniquely shaped leaves of this strongly draping succulent variety feature a gracefully curved shape with dorsal fin-like protrusions – thus earning the plant the moniker Senecio peregrinus ‘String of Dolphins!’ Relatively rare within the succulent world, this specimen can prove slightly more high maintenance than some other Senecio, but the trade off is well worth it to enjoy its marvelously charming leaves within your home or patio space!

Unlike many succulents, ‘String of Dolphins’ prefers indirect light to partial shade, avoiding the harshest afternoon sunlight whenever possible. Furthermore, it prefers slightly more frequent watering than many similar cultivars, allowing the soil to just dry through before providing another drink. As such, porous soil within a well-draining pot is a must to avoid root rot, as is ample airflow around the stems and soil surface. Hardy only to Zone 10, be sure to bring this rare beauty indoors when the threat of frost looms.

When contented, ‘String of Dolphins’ will send up small, puffball-like blooms with a rich cinnamon fragrance. If the plant begins to look leggy as its stems grow out, do not hesitate to prune the lengthiest stems back, even rerooting the resulting clippings into the soil at the base of the plant in order to achieve a rich, full look.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
