With an almost perfectly spherical shape, Mammillaria carmenae is covered in conical tubercles sporting a vibrant green hue. At the tip of each tubercle is a starburst-shaped cluster of thin spines, which range in color from a creamy beige to a rich coppery orange. Relatively fast growing for a cactus, within the span of only a few years a contented Mammillaria carmenae will form a cluster of offsets reaching several inches in diameter.

Like most cacti, Mammillaria carmenae prefers bright light, though at least a few hours of direct sun will yield the best growth, richest coloration, and most ample blooms in the early springtime. The flowers themselves are diurnal, opening at sunrise and closing again at nightfall, and range in coloration from a creamy white to a dusty rose. While exposure to a period of cooler temperatures during the winter months can encourage more ample blooming, take care not to expose this variety to frost, which could result in permanent damage to the stems.

Another key component of Mammillaria carmenae’s care is to avoid excess moisture. To achieve this goal, be sure to utilize a porous soil mixture, a well-draining pot, and water on a thorough but infrequent schedule.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
