Mammillaria elongata 'Copper King' cristata

$ 10.00 Sold out
Size: 4"
DESCRIPTION

With the same orange and copper spines as its non-crested cousin, Mammillaria elongata 'Copper King' cristata possesses a rare mutation within its apical meristems, or growth centers, that produces flattened, undulating stems which together form a swirling mass more akin to a coral reef than a typical cactus! The richest copper coloration will be seen along the uppermost ridge of each of these unique stems, providing a gradient of color, texture, and form sure to add to any succulent collection.

Though its rarity may suggest otherwise, ‘Copper King’ cristata is a relatively simple plant to care for. Its primary needs are plenty of bright to direct sunlight, and periods of dryness between thorough waterings. To achieve these requirements, be sure to provide a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot, ensure ample airflow around the stems and soil surface, and employ a thorough yet infrequent watering routine, such as the ‘soak and dry’ method.

While ‘Copper King’ cristata is an overall hardy specimen, care should be taken to handle it gentle when repotting, and to place it in a location where it will not frequently be bumped or jostled, to avoid damaging the uniquely bizarre growth structure. Furthermore, be sure to shield this specimen from freezing temperatures during the winter months, which could otherwise cause irreparable damage.

    PLANT SIZING & APPEARANCE

    Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
