Trichocereus thelegonus cristata

With a uniquely undulating, lumpy texture across the surface of its fan-shaped stem, Trichocereus thelegonus cristatasports a matte green coloration offset by petite, wooly white tubercles from which creamy and reddish spines emerge – with increased density and depth of color along the upper margin of the plant. Though less common in household conditions, this variety can also produce large white blooms, which open in the night and senesce by morning.

Despite its rarity and very uncommon aesthetic, Trichocereus thelegonus cristatapossesses the same straightforward care needs as many more ‘’typical’ cacti. As such, be sure to situate this specimen in a location with plenty of bright to direct sunlight – though acclimate slowly, to ensure that no sunburn occurs! Beyond this, avoiding stagnant moisture is the real key to success. Thus, plan to utilize a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot, provide ample airflow around the stem and soil surface, and water thoroughly yet infrequently, allowing for periods of dryness in between deep drinks.

Hardy only to Zone 9, do not allow Trichocereus thelegonus cristatato be exposed to freezing temperatures, which can cause permanent damage to the stem!
