Bolivicereus cristata

Size: 4"

A rare ‘crested’ cactus variety, the fan shaped pads of Bolivicereus cristata are bright green, coated in a layer of small, clustered amber spines. A slow grower, this variety can ultimately reach up to 12 inches tall and wide when provided with the appropriate conditions. The unique growth form is the result of a genetic defect to the apical meristem of the plant, leading to the intriguing wave-like shape of this exceptional plant.

While some crested cacti can prove difficult to care for, that is not the case for this hardy variety. Bright sunlight, infrequent watering, and a porous potting medium within a well-draining pot hold the keys to success. Take care to select a heavier pot material, such as clay or ceramic, as the unique growth form of Bolivicereus cristatacan predispose it to top heaviness and tipping in a lighter pot, potentially resulting in permanent damage to the stems.

During the winter months, be sure to water even more infrequently, to avoid issues with cold and damp soil around the plant’s root, and shield the stems from frosty temperatures.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
